Dr. Linda Applegarth is the Director of Psychological Services
at the Center for Reproductive Medicine and Infertility. She is
Clinical Associate Professor of Psychology in the Departments
of Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine at the
New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Medical College of Cornell
University.
Dr. Applegarth is an experienced counseling psychologist,
researcher, and educator. For over 20 years, she has had a special
focus on the emotional aspects of infertility, she has helped hundreds
of individuals and couples to understand and cope with a broad range of challenges
associated with infertility, pregnancy loss, and parenting after
infertility. Dr. Applegarth has also assisted couples with difficult decisions
regarding alternative family-building options, including egg or sperm donation
and adoption.
She earned her B.A. (with distinction) from the University of
Kansas, and her Masters and Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Boston
University. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the American Psychological
Association, North American Society of Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynecology,
American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and the Society for
Assisted Reproductive Technology as well as many other professional
organizations. Dr. Applegarth also served as Secretary of the Board of Directors
of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), and
is past Chair of the Mental Health Professional Group of ASRM.
She was a longtime member of the National Board of Directors of Resolve,
the National Infertility Association where she also served as Chair. Dr. Applegarth has shared her
insights with worldwide audiences through chapters and articles for leading
medical publications, in presentations before medical and patient
audiences, and in media interviews.
