Many chapters in the history of infertility treatment are being
written at CRMI. Dr. Zev Rosenwaks and others from CRMI were
part of the medical team that successfully used invitro fertilization
for the first time in the United States in 1981. Dr. Rosenwaks
was also the first physician in this country to use donor egg
in the treatment of infertility. More recently, diagnostic capabilities
in genetic testing perfected at CRMI have led to pioneering
work in preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) that can reveal
whether an embryo carries certain inherited traits. In one example
of this groundbreaking work, a couple carrying the sickle cell
anemia gene was able to give birth to healthy twins that do
not carry the gene for this serious inherited disease.
A HISTORY of SUCCESS
Our history of achievement and superior care has helped CRMI
to become one of the largest and most highly regarded medical
centers specializing in reproductive medicine and infertility.
We regularly treat couples from across the United States and
from countries around the world. In every case, the finest medical
professionals, treatment capabilities and patient support programs
are available to give each couple the best possible chance to
conceive and give birth to a healthy baby. It is a formula that
has helped turn thousands of our patients into parents. One
measure of our success is in in vitro fertilization (IVF). Since
it was first introduced, IVF has helped an estimated 60,000
babies to be born in the U.S. More than 5,000 of those babies
almost one in ten were born to couples who were
treated at CRMI.
